AISGW and its member schools were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kendra Sun-Alperin, Head of School at the Harbor School. Kendra passed away on September 2, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and brave battle with cancer.
A life-long resident of the greater Washington, DC area, Kendra had deep ties to the AISGW school community as a school head, faculty member, and parent. Since 2014, she served as Head of School at the Harbor School, and prior to that, was a highly-regarded reading and math teacher in the lower school at the Norwood School for six years, where she was also the site director of the Horizons program. Kendra continued to maintain strong connections at Norwood as a former colleague, involved parent, and friend. Prior to working at Norwood, Kendra taught at St. Patrick’s Episcopal School.
Kendra was a dedicated and accomplished educator. She received her Masters in Education and Human Development from the George Washington University, and her Ph.D. in Human Development from the University of Maryland. She was passionate about shaping and supporting the success of young learners.
Kendra will be remembered fondly by many AISGW colleagues and friends. As one fellow head of school noted, “Kendra was an incredible woman. I will miss her positive energy and kind heart.” A Harbor School colleague wrote, “I loved working for Kendra at the Harbor School. She was incredibly kind and compassionate, playful, and just fun to be around… She will never be forgotten.”
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an education fund that has been set up in the names of Kendra’s children, Grayson and Cameron. https://www.gofundme.com/rb2euh-grayson-and-cameron-college-fund
