Celebrating the Life of Barbara Patterson

BP Program

It was a great honor for AISGW staff to join in the Celebration of Life for the distinguished former President of the Black Student Fund, Barbara Patterson, at her memorial services February 12, 2018. The reception in the Pilgrim Observatory Gallery of the National Cathedral was lovingly decorated with photos of Barbara from throughout her lifetime and filled with Barbara’s family and friends, including current and former heads of schools, school administrators, BSF Board Members, staff, families and alumni — so many people that Barbara had embraced and profoundly influenced.

The service in the Cathedral’s Bethlehem Chapel was both joyful and sorrowful with lovely tributes from Barbara’s three daughters and Frank Raines, former Director of the United States Office of Management and BSF Board Member. Each one shared stories of Barbara’s remarkable determination and her passion for advancing equity in education, her love for her family, and the many aspects of her life that brought joy to her and those around her. The ceremony continued with prayer and song in celebration of Barbara’s enduring spirit and legacy.

We offer our sincerest condolences to Barbara’s family for their loss.
