St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School is a coed, JK-12 college preparatory Episcopal Church School located on three campuses in Alexandria, Virginia, six miles from D.C. With an enrollment of 1,120 students and more than 260 faculty and staff, the school’s mission is “to pursue goodness as well as knowledge.” Emphasis is placed on learning to think critically and understanding one’s role in “a complex and changing world.” SSSAS welcomes families of all faiths.
In the Lower School, teachers differentiate instruction to address the unique gifts and needs of each student. The challenging academic program is complemented by foreign language beginning in JK, the arts, physical education, environmental sustainability, service-learning, technology, and anti-bias programs.
The Middle School curriculum encourages the strengths of boys and girls at each stage of their development by offering both single-gender and coeducational classes. Students participate in the performing arts and on interscholastic athletic teams and explore extracurricular subjects during spring mini-courses.
Upper School students complete courses in nine areas of study, which include 27 AP and 16 honors courses. Students participate in visual and performing arts programs and compete on 20 teams in the IAC and the ISL. Students receive guidance from college counselors and are consistently accepted to some of the most selective colleges and universities in the nation and abroad.
