The Six Components of Parent Retention

Many schools have had a flood of inquiries and applications as parents tried to find alternatives to the local public schools, while others struggle to retain students as families relocated out of the big cities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Are these short-term solutions, and will families leave your school to return to public school?

Through the results of many Attrition Studies conducted by Jill Goodman Consulting, participants will better understand parent and student behavior and why families choose to leave before graduation. They’ll be introduced to the Six Components of Parent Retention, a framework of in-depth questions about the program and the school’s parent experience. Participants will engage with the framework as an opportunity for self-reflection, assessment, and crafting a strategy to retain all those new families.

Learn how to create productive conversations within the faculty and administrative team because of new and unexpected enrollment changes. We’ll also take some time to check-in with each other about what’s on our mind as we begin what is sure to be another unique admission season.

About the Speaker 

Jill Goodman is a consultant for independent and private schools with over 20 years of experience working with organizational leaders. She specializes in helping schools advance their mission through brand-related qualitative research, strategic visioning, leadership mentoring, and development planning. Jill is well-known and well-regarded by independent school audiences around the country for her presentations on educational advancement, leadership, and constituency relations. She is a frequent podcast guest, blogger, and author.   

Please note:  Because the work of retention extends beyond the admission office, schools are encouraged to bring a “plus one” from their leadership team, such as a division leader or assistant head of school.
