November 9th- Gender and Sexuality Diversity: Students' Need to Belong (K-5)             with Jennifer Bryan (Part 1)

For Early Childhood and Elementary educators, how to best address issues of gender and sexuality with our youngest students is an ongoing and ever-evolving challenge. Administrators, teachers and parents alike have all manner of questions about what our children need to learn and when they are ready to learn it. What can get lost in debates about “age appropriateness” is the way kids’ natural curiosity about themselves and others frequently brings gender and sexuality right into the heart of their emotional, social, physical and cognitive development. The more we understand gender and sexuality as being central to children’s lives, the better we will be able to ensure that all students feel they belong in the school community, regardless of their identity or expression. Bring your questions and observations to this interactive session.

AISGW is pleased to offer this fall subscription series, “Building Belonging,” to support our member schools’ diversity, equity and inclusion work. The goal of this series is to provide deeper learning opportunities for educators who are working to create more inclusive school communities. We hope that these offerings can meet much of a school’s professional development needs in the area of DEI.

What does the subscription include and how much does it cost?

The series includes seven workshops covering a range of DEI topics (see below). By registering for the series, a school can send an unlimited number of participants -- from administrators to trustees to classroom teachers -- to each of the listed sessions for one flat fee. The subscription fee is $675 per school. Please note that due to the nature of the topic, the sessions will not be recorded.

How do I register my school for the series?

As part of registration, participant schools will appoint a contact person who will coordinate internally with members of your school community who plan to attend the series. The contact person could be the DEI director, heads' assistant, professional development leader, assistant head -- whoever makes sense for your school! The contact person will receive the Zoom link before each session and distribute the link as well as any related program materials to your school's attendees.

What are the session topics and when will the sessions be offered?

Sessions will be offered twice monthly at 4:00 pm for either 60 or 90 minutes from late September to December. All sessions will take place virtually. The sessions are intended for heads of school, trustees, division leaders, DEI practitioners, counselors, and in some cases, teacher-leaders. Schools may determine who they would like to attend each session and there will be no limit on the number of attendees per school.
