Join fellow educators from across the Washington, DC region, representing all grade levels and all types of schools - independent, public and public charter - for an enriching day exploring how culturally responsive teaching and communication impacts student outcomes. The NPS Equity Institute is designed to engage, challenge and educate participants while offering resources and action steps. This robust one-day institute will be particularly effective for all grade level teachers and administrators. All roles are welcome.
Participants will explore culturally responsive teaching and communication on a macro and micro level through guided workshops. The hands-on component of each session will enable educators to examine current teaching and communication practices through a culturally responsive lens.
Workshop Overview
- Examining culturally responsive practices through specific content areas.
- Using the “Culture Tree” model to reflect on who you are and what you bring with you to the classroom.
- Learning the 7 definitions of cultural responsive teaching and how they apply in different contexts.
- Exploring colleague relationships through a culturally responsive lens.
- Recognizing and addressing implicit bias while also building a supportive and inclusive
educational community.
